Perfection is the enemy of good. Okay, hear me out. It’s a new year and we all have new goals we want to get accomplished, but how many of those goals are ever going to get off the ground? Seriously. Why do so many good ideas and dreams die before they really get started? Perfection gets in the way.
Don’t let that happen.
Don’t wait on the perfect scenario to start changing your life. It’s impossible. The world doesn’t operate in perfection. This is a problem that I struggle with, and I think the majority of us do as well. We wait, and then react when the situation seems to be the best. That just leads to waiting around until you forget about your goal completely.
- If you are trying to lose weight, then you will have a bad week of eating at some point. I can almost guarantee it. Don’t let that bad week derail you. If you gain some weight back, don’t let that stop you. Step back and look at the big picture. You aren’t going to be perfect every week, but just make progress.
- When you first start exercising you aren’t going to be able to do much at all. Don’t let the fact that you can’t run a 5K stop you from getting outside. Wake up and get better each day. Also don’t wait until you have the perfect shoes, or attire. You don’t have to have the best running shoes to go running, no matter what the Nike ads tell you.
- If you are a photographer, or videographer, or whatever. Don’t wait around until you have the perfect piece of equipment, or lighting. Get out, shoot, and do what you love.
- Or if you are trying to write a blog, don’t wait until you have the perfect content to share. This has been my biggest issue lately. Any content is better than no content.
I guess what I am trying to say with all this is that you already have what you need to make progress on your goals. Things are not going to go the way you have them planned. You will make mistakes, sometimes big ones. The key is to continue to press through them. To continue to press through when the conditions suck. Each little step is going to get you to where you want to be. Finding Full has never been about the strive for perfection, but about the strive for continual self improvement. That only starts by making forward progress every single day. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of good.
